Born in Ocala, Florida, JoeAnn Anderson Ulmer emerged as a key figure in the civil rights movement in Florida, notably in her contributions to educational reform and advocacy for Black women. Ulmer’s work as an educator helped shape young minds and empower Black youth to pursue leadership roles and higher education. Her activism extended into the broader community, where she worked tirelessly to promote women’s rights and address racial inequalities. Ulmer's contributions have left an indelible mark on Florida's education system and inspired countless young women to stand for justice and equality. She was one of the St. Augustine Four.
