"We were young, but we understood what was at stake—the future of our people."

Willie Carl Singleton was born in Tallahassee, Florida, and became a prominent figure in the civil rights movement as one of the “Tallahassee Four” who bravely fought for desegregation in public facilities. In 1960, Singleton, along with three others, participated in a sit-in at a local lunch counter, sparking a wave of protests against segregation in Florida. His actions demonstrated his courage and dedication to equality, and he faced arrests and significant social pushback for his activism.
